Fabric and Research
The Double-Coated Cotton Ripstop begins as a piece-dyed cotton ripstop — a reinforced weave where thicker threads are interwoven at regular intervals in a grid pattern to prevent tears from spreading. The outer face is then coated with a double application of a special pigmented resin: the first coat bonds to the fabric surface; the second coat overlaps with the coloured base beneath, creating a dimensional, layered effect where the resin and the base colour interact visually. The result is a fabric with a distinctive tactile surface and a depth of colour that shifts depending on the light. The polyurethane resin coating also provides weather resistance without a separate lamination layer. The mustard yellow colourway is part of Stone Island's warm summer tones palette.
