Kenzo Takada arrived in Paris in 1964 with the hopes that a new world of sights and sensations could inspire the launch of his fashion career. The earliest roots of the KENZO brand hark back to Takada's own 'Jungle Jap': the designer's first boutique which was adorned with lavish, tropical-style decorations and decor and filled with garments of a similar nature.

Headed today by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony, KENZO has become subject to a grand revival, formed in the mould of the brand's 'Jungle Jap' foundations. Much like Takada in the 1970's, Leon and Lim dare to challenge seasonal trends with their bold, overt use of colours and frequent forays into the avant-garde.
