G-Star RAW Research III

The Raw Research project is spearheaded by Argentinian-born British designer and artist Aitor Throup. Upon obtaining an MA in Fashion Menswear from London's Royal College of Art in 2006, Throup opened his own studio in East London, before establishing his multi-disciplinary design house 'A.T. Studio' the following year. The studio is committed to telling stories by way of new and imaginative object design, a mantra which has inspired the launch of his own label ‘New Object Research’. Throup was appointed as Executive Creative Director of G-Star RAW in 2014, following his 3 year tenure as creative consultant for the Dutch designer label.

For its third capsule collection, G-Star RAW’s innovation lab Raw Research focuses on deconstructing denim and exploring its many ingredients in their purest form. Raw Research III continues to innovate and reimagine contemporary denim, experimenting with new shapes and silhouettes for this capsule collection. All styles are executed in an undyed, unwashed and untreated raw ‘calico’ denim, an approach which serves as the central theme to the collection.

Aitor Throup also places a special emphasis on the fit and functionality of his creations for this collection. By experimenting with abstract shapes and boxy fits, Throup continues to challenge the accepted conventions of what defines ‘denim’, thus fuelling the debate raised within his own ‘what is RAW’ campaign.

The resulting showcase is a minimalistic and refreshingly organic collection which celebrates originality and appreciates fit and fabrication in equal measures.
