Introducing: Casablanca

For the Spring / Summer 2022 season, we at Zoo Fashions are proud to welcome Casablanca into our designer portfolio. The Paris-based label has more than made a splash since its inception, placing amongst the 8 finalists for the coveted LVMH prize in 2020 and stirring up considerable excitement within the fashion community, especially where industry moguls and celebrity personnel are concerned. Before going on to launch his own label in 2018, French-Morrocan founder Charaf Tajer actually co-founded the streetwear brand Pigalle, frequently collaborating with the likes of Virgil Abloh and garnering a notable reputation that now precedes him.

Casablanca positions itself as a luxury, sports and leisurewear-inspired brand, defined primarily by easy, highly-wearable fabrics, explosive bursts of pastel colours and refined but relaxed silhouettes. The artistic direction takes huge inspiration from Charaf Tajer’s Moroccan roots, with colour palettes that evoke images of the sunbaked, North African terracotta and aesthetics that reference the rich cultural heritage of the city of Casablanca. In fact, the city itself holds tremendous sentimental significance for Tajer, being both the place in which his parents first met and fell in love and the setting for his fondest childhood memories. Casablanca and its many wonders were explored extensively throughout his debut collection and the city continues to serve as the muse for his artistic process today, in many ways contextualising his love for Paris and the symbiotic bond shared by the two cities.

Much of the brand's Parisian influence can be observed in the tennis-inspired themes that reference the heritage and history of Roland-Garros and Tajer’s interpretations of the city's decadent, private country club lifestyle. Casablanca's collections are punctuated with effortless designs; flowing silks and crisp cottons that were purpose-built for carefree lounging against the backdrop of the Parisian sunset. All of which retain the vivacity of youth with popping colours and striking prints.

Tajer boldly remarked that he wants to be known as “the go-to Parisian House” and based on what we’ve seen so far, we’d argue that he’s certainly laid foundations for the label’s long-term success.
